Heritage Day was originally a Zulu Holiday known as Shaka Day, celebrated in KwaZulu Natal, and was later made a public holiday. South Africans celebrate Heritage Day by remembering the cultural heritage of the many cultures that make up the population of South Africa. The day recognizes different aspects of the South African Culture and encourages South Africans to celebrate their cultural heritage, the diversity of their beliefs and different traditions.
Heritage Day is also known as the National braai day by many and the Van der Vyver Transport family made sure not to miss out on an opportunity to have a braai. The public holiday fell on a Monday but the VDV Team made sure to get the braai in before the weekend, on the 21 st of September. Staff members were invited to attend the day wearing clothing that represented their unique cultures while enjoying a good spread of food. Were we so excited to see so many staff members dressed in their clothing and they looked absolutely stunning. In fact, everyone looked stunning because it is not only clothes that made everyone look stunning, but also their happy smiling faces. The braai was the first of its kind at VDV, and most certainly not the last. A variety of meat was prepared by our expert braai-ers Louis and Angelo, and delicious side dishes were made by Annelise and Mirna. The day was celebrated not only with good food and company, but also prizes for best dressed. The winning staff members all received chocolates. The braai was of course extra special because so many drivers attended the event.
The purpose of the day was of course not just the food and dress up, but also for everyone to get together and have a great time. We were happy to see so many staff members mingling and laughing together. As they always say, a picture is worth a thousand words and these pictures speak for themselves. We would like to extend a special thanks to Louis, Angelo, Monique, Annelise and Mirna. The day would not have been possible without their help. They made sure that the day ran seamlessly and that everyone left with tummies full of great food. A big thank you also goes to Ndamase, Kried and Thabo for setting up the chairs and tables. You guys put in a lot of work and made it look effortless. We hope everyone had a great time and we are looking forward to the next event in the new year after the
