On Saturday the 21 st of July, Van Der Vyver Transport had its inaugural Drivers vs Operations Action Cricket match. It was the first event of its kind and all players had the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and passion for the game.
The VDV Drivers team, aka the Vipers consisted of Ian Coetzee, Jean van Heerden, Wimpie Jordaan, Petrus Nel, Fanie Lotter, Callo Afrika, Andries Hanekan and Andre Riekert. Electing to bat first, the drivers put up a hard fought 26 runs after their allotted 16 overs and top batsman, Andre Rieckert put up 13 runs during his two overs at the crease.
The operations team was represented by Francois Visser, Louis Swart, Bertin Weber, Heinrich Ahlers, Mathew Greyvenstein, Cornel van der Vyver, Freek van der Mescht and Ben Bennot. After stumbling out the gate, the operations team managed to comfortable chase down the driver’s total. Man of the Match honors went to Freek van der Mescht scoring 23 runs and taking 5 wickets during his two over spell. In the end it was a fantastic game enjoyed by all and both sides look forward to their next engagement.
